Volunteers provide "one-on-one" tutoring experience to students on a weekly basis throughout the school year. |
The Coalition for Learning Opportunities and United Tutors (CLOUT) Program is a science literacy enhancement tool that assists fourth grade students from Denver area schools in raising their science reading skills.
The intent of CLOUT is to combine topical reading with related hands-on science activities to help improve student reading-comprehension and sustain their reading progress and interest in the topic selected. Please click on the links below to choose topic-specific materials for your elementary classroom.
For additional information about CLOUT or to volunteer, contact Morgan Curley, (303) 275-3080, morgan_curley@nrel.gov at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Office of Education Programs, 1617 Cole Boulevard, Golden, Colorado 80401.
Get Smart About Energy!
DOE announced last week the launch of a new educational Web site that provides more than 350 lesson plans and activities on energy efficiency and renewable energy for grades K-12. DOE's new "Get Smart About Energy!" Web site includes hands-on activities that address energy fundamentals, energy efficiency, sources of energy, and the environmental impacts of energy use, and all the activities and lesson plans are aligned with the National Science Education Standards. Teacher guides are included with many of the lessons, and all the materials are free and reproducible. The Web site will help to equip today's students with the knowledge and resources to develop cutting-edge energy technologies in the future.
